Demo databases
We have installed a few demo databases where you can login and play around. Please feel free to use them as sandbox to discover the features of refbase.
- The official refbase demo database is based on the latest stable release version (currently, refbase-0.9.5): http://demo.refbase.net/
- There's another demo database that's based on the latest SVN version: http://beta.refbase.net/
- For a multibyte-aware demo database which uses a Unicode/UTF-8 encoded MySQL database, please check out: http://refbase.textdriven.com/beta/

Real-world installations
We are aware of several hundred installations worldwide, a few of them are listed below, some more can be found via Google. If you maintain your own publicly available installation, you're welcome to add it to the list!
- The public literature database at http://www.refbase.org/ allows you to manage and share your academic literature online. This database is meant for people who cannot (or don't want to) install their own refbase server. It's freely available to everybody, but if you'd just like to test out refbase please use one of the above mentioned demo databases instead.
- The Institute for Polar Ecology (IPÖ), as institution where the development of refbase was initiated, has a running refbase installation that's based on the latest SVN development tree: https://refbase.ipoe.uni-kiel.de/refs/
- The Northwestern University Center for Atom-Probe Tomography offers a refbase installation that's integrated into a MediaWiki site: http://arc.nucapt.northwestern.edu/refbase/
- USGS Woods Hole Science Center Publications are maintained in a customized refbase database.
- The Census of Marine Life (CoML) project (a global initiative to assess and explain the diversity, distribution, and abundance of marine life in the oceans) maintains the CoML network science publications in a refbase database: http://db.coml.org/comlrefbase/
- PRBO Conservation Science has a CVS implementation of refbase with some small modifications being initiated that manage our organization's specific publications with their associated contribution number: http://www.prbo.org/refs/
- CeLiDa - short name for Cephalopod Literature Database. A literature database for Cephalopods at the Leibniz-Institute of Marine Sciences Kiel, Germany. The installation features some modifications (such as automatic detection of species names and email- & web-adresses, a preliminary version of duplicate search and an extension plugin for Firefox searchbar).
- The Fishery Department of the Leibniz-Institute of Marine Sciences Kiel has a pure refbase installation, which is not modified ;-)
- CiLit - short name for CIGENE Literature Database. A literature database for researchers associated with Centre for Integrated Genetics (CIGENE) at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. The installation features some modifications like article group structure, group email notification and DOI import.
- The History of Communication Research Bibliography provides English-language references on all aspects of the history of communication research. It features a customized main page as well as a dedicated "Recent Additions" page.
- The Economic-Evolution.Net website collects scientific literature on economic evolution via their EE.net bibliography.
- The Sector of Biological and Soft Systems (BSS) of the University of Cambridge maintains their organization's publications in a refbase database that provides direct download links to fulltext PDFs and results in BibTeX/Endnote format.
- The ICTconsequences Bibliography provides literature on access, use and consequences of information and communication technology in health and network society.
- U.S. Wheat and Barley Scab Initiative
- Equine and Animal Cognition Reference Database - a literature database for researchers in the field of animal cognition and equine science.
- Social Insects Reference Database - a literature database for researchers in the field of social insects.
